How to get the Feline Gear in The Witcher 3 (Cat School Set) (2024)

This guide will show you how to start The Witcher 3 Feline Gear Quest, where to find and obtain all the diagrams of the Cat School set and the requirements to craft the armor and weapons from the basic tier Feline witcher set in the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.

The Cat School or Feline gear is focused on increasing your defenses as well as your chance to make the enemies bleed. It is a very powerful light armor set especially since you can use it before reaching level 20.

How to start the Scavenging Hunt quest

There is no need to go out of your way to find the map fragment that will start the quest for you. When you find the diagrams, this quest will be completed for you automatically.

If you want to get the map fragment, visit Blackbough. It’s just west of Crow’s Perch in Velen. This one is also mentioned in our guide to the Merchants in the Witcher 3 you have to visit!

Talk to the merchant that is closest to the Signpost and acquire the map from him.

The basic Feline set requires level 17 to wear with the exception of the Crossbow that you can only use after you hit level 29. I’d recommend that you start this quest when you’re around 18-21 so you struggle as little as possible. You can always start the mission at lower levels but I wouldn’t recommend it.

You can easily tell this is a light armor set just from looking at the design. Short sleeves and leather accents all over the main dark blue colored clothes.

Where to find the Diagrams

All diagrams from the basic Feline witcher gear set are located in Velen.

Feline Steel Sword Diagram Location

This is one of the easiest diagrams to obtain. Travel to the Drahim Castle, south of Novigrad.

There you’ll find the small but unmistakable castle. There are four level 9 mounted bandits near the area.

After you dispatched the enemies, blow the door’s entrance with Aard and go inside. Take the stairs to the lowest level.

Loot the chest and take the Feline Steel Sword diagram.

Feline Silver Sword Diagram Location

For the Silver Sword Diagram you must head to Est Tayiar, it’s northeast of Oxenfurt, in the eastern part of Velen.

Once you get there you’ll notice that there are people inside, these witch hunters won’t attack you.

You only have to walk a few meters before you see this hole in the ground, climb down. Don’t worry, there aren’t any enemies down there.

There’s a wall with a fissure on it, use Aard to destroy it.

Inside there’s a skeleton, it has the Feline Silver Sword diagram.

Feline Boots, Armor, Trousers, and Gauntlets Diagrams Location

This location is a little tricky so I’ll guide you step by step. First, head to the Northwest of Novigrad. We’re going to use Electors’ Square as a starting point.

Here’s Electors’ Square Signpost, use the stars that are in front of the Signpost and turn left.

Turn right in the corner and then continue in a straight line.

Walk down the rocky road and turn left on the first stairs. Continue until you reach the corner of the house and turn right.

You’re now at the edge of the city, continue until the road ends. Be careful not to fall.

There’s a ledge, climb down and continue walking until you find the entrance of a cavern.

The entrance appears to be blocked, use The Eye that Keira Metz gave you in the “Wandering in the Dark” quest. This will remove the illusion.

After a few steps, this is the sight that you’re going to have. There’s a level 14 Golem ahead, ignore it and turn left.

There’s only one path to follow, keep going. Do not walk too close to the walls, Mushrooms that release poison gas are all over them.

You’ll arrive at a small courtyard with many statues. Each one of them has a lever that makes them turn. Have all the statues facing inwards. Before you’re done, a single level 7 Wraith will appear and attack you.

When all the statues are in the right position, the floor is going to open. Dive into the water and defeat the three level 10 Drowners with your Crossbow.

Now, collect the key from the skeleton that lies at the bottom.

Return to the main room. You have to get to the door that is behind the golem. It is a slow but strong enemy, use Quen to protect your health bar and hit it with strong hits right after dodging its attacks. Remember that Golems are weak to Dimeritium bombs and Elementa Oil.

The Cat School Gear diagrams are behind this door. The key you previously obtained unlocks this door. If the Golem badly damaged you, eat some food before entering the room.

Mad Kiyan was once a Witcher but now you have to face what’s left of him in order to obtain the Feline Gear diagrams. His body is still human so he’s vulnerable to Igni. Kiyan can cast a Quen shield so be cautious with your attacks. This is a level 17 enemy.

Once you’ve defeated him, loot the body and claim your Feline diagrams.

Feline Crossbow diagram location

Grab a boat and head to Temple Island, Southwest of Novigrad.

In the circled area of the picture above, you’re going to find the remains of a ship.

Board the ship and use the stairs.

The first thing that you’ll see is the chest, loot it to get the Feline Crossbow diagram.

How to Craft the Armor and Weapons

After you have obtained all diagrams from the Feline gear set from the School of the Cat, you need a Journeyman Armorer to craft the armor pieces and Journeyman Blacksmith for the swords.

Crafting Materials Requirements

Since this is a low-tier armor set, the materials to craft the armor pieces and both swords are easy to acquire.

Excluding the materials that you get from killing monsters, you can purchase them all from the merchants that you visit to craft the gear. Remember that you can also dismantle things to get materials. Here are the two rare ones for this tier:

Dark Steel Plate
Can be looted, purchased or crafted. You can dismantle Dark Iron Ingots and some gear pieces.

Dark Iron Ore
Can be purchased from Armorers and other craftsmen and merchants. You can also craft it yourself from Dark Steel Ingots.

Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith

It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.

The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.

If the NPC is not there, meditate for a bit. This one works on a regular daily shift and if you visit at night, the shop will be closed.

You can visit Crow’s Perch or Kaer Trolde to find an Armorer for the other four pieces of the set. Here is the location of Fergus Graem and Yoana.

How to get the Legendary Version of the Feline set

The Cat School or Feline Witcher Gear set is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenging Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.

In NG+ this set is called Legendary Feline witcher set. The word “legendary” is added to acknowledge that you are acquiring the NG+ version of the set. It has the same type of stats but offers higher values across the board. It also requires the same types of crafting materials.

The Cat School in The Witcher’s Lore

Like many of the other schools of witchers, The School of the Cat was formed after abandoning the Order of Witchers. To gain power as fast as possible, the School of the Cat abandoned the neutrality tradition of the switches and sent many of their students to serve as assassins, swords for hire, and spies.

The Cats developed fighting techniques focused on precision, agility, and speed. As you can imagine, they’re not the strongest nor are they equipped with the heaviest armor but when it comes to killing someone undetected no one rivals the School of the Cat. This means that they eventually also took contracts on humans, making them a disgrace in the eyes of the other schools.

It is said that it’s one of the only schools that train women and non-pureblood humans.
