A 17.5% concentration of carbon monoxide in Ekornaas' blood indicated he was still breathing when he was set on fire, Sanson said.

He was born November 20, 1935, in Little Chute, and had been a Freedom resident until he graduated from Freedom High School in 1953. He graduated from St. Norbert College in 1957. Dr. Randerson joined the National Guard and was a member of six years.

In 1960, he worked in cancer research in McArdle Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Dr. Randerson continued his schooling and obtained his Ph.D. in Genetics and Human Genetics from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 1965. After a year of teaching at the University of Wisconsin Stout, he joined the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh faculty in 1966.

Students, colleagues, and alumni have i invariably praised Dr. Randerson's high sense of standards, his wealth of knowledge, and his profound concern for students. In recognition of his outstanding record as an exceptionally capable, caring, scholarly, and dedicated teacher, he was given the Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1982. He taught both graduate and undergraduate classes in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology. His numerous publications, national and i international presentations, and his curricular development activities reflect his professional commitment to his field of specialization.

Twice he was awarded the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh F. Duncan Research Award. Dr. Randerson also received a NATO Fellowship to attend the NATO Advanced Studies Institute in Cosmochemistry in Maratea, Italy, in 1981. He is survived by his mother, Mrs.
