Like many families, we wanted to save money by choosing a contractor offering budget-friendly rates without compromising quality. We proceeded with a contractor recommended by a family friend. However, as the renovation progressed, it became evident that we had made a mistake. The laminates we chose ended up with many scratches on the surface due to the contractor's careless approach, and the colors we picked clashed horribly with the overall decor. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience, to say the least.Reflecting on this, I realized how similar it was to managing our investment portfolio. Like many of us, we initially considered handling it ourselves to save on advisory or distribution fees. But just like with our home renovation, our lack of expertise might lead to less-than-ideal outcomes. Without the guidance of a professional advisor, one may struggle to choose the right investment schemes and could end up with a portfolio not aligned with our risk appetite or long-term goals.Just like the careless contractor who compromised our home's aesthetics, a misguided investment strategy could leave us feeling uneasy and uncertain about our financial future.In hindsight, I've come to appreciate the value of seeking professional advice.
