I've got a brilliant way for them to save the company. Instead of a surge charge they should require you to buy a share of stock from HMNY. It'll cost way less then the ridiculous amount they are charging and it'll help them sell some of the, what 5 billion shares of stock they released.

Someone said they wouldn't last through the weekend. This could be it...

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Poking around in the app to see about check-in issues ... only remaining showtimes around me are Mission Impossible.

Plugged in “Los Angeles, CA” ... found an $8.00 surcharge at the AMC Montebello 10 in Montebello, CA.

I didn’t actually check in to anything, but it seems OK up to the point of exploring.

I am jealous though ... somebody had The Thing showing! (Can’t find it now.)

It is highly doubtful their CC processor pulled the plug late on a Saturday night. The next financial hurdles they will have are the balloon payments on the loan they just took and the next payment to the CC processor. I’m guessing the vendor payments are about every three weeks — based on the outage on July 6 and again on July 26. Yes, I am speculating the July 6 isssue was the same thing. Since they didn’t have to borrow the money publicly, we never heard about it.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Peak Pricing is such a sham. I'm at work at 3:41am PT and just took a peak into the app.

2 movies (Ant Man and Mama Mia) are in grey lightning bolts for the early shows at a theatre near my house that I always go to and it's saying that they're approaching peak pricing and you need to check in now to avoid it. Really at this hour? And a 5pm and 7pm shows are already in peak pricing. And than some 4pm and 5pm shows of Equalizer 2 are already at Peak pricing.

I don't get it. I'm so done with this service. I'm going to try to use it a few more times in my last month and move on. I'll probably get AMC A-List at some point in the next week or so.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Oof. The end is very close. Since they introduced peak pricing, it NEVER applied to the art house theater I go to. Today all but the earliest showing of the Three Identical Strangers doc have a $6 fee attached to them. (I've seen all the other movies there, so they're grayed out, but I assume it's the same with them.)

And at the more mainstream theater Sorry to Bother You was always fee-free. Not anymore.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Every time I see a new post to this thread I anticipate it is an announcement of it's demise. For me it wasn't a waste of money but I did find it not very beneficial. I did go to several movies I would not have seen without it. But I also didn't average more than one per month anyway with most of those being cheaper matinees. Going on a Friday afternoon in the winter was fun. But I guess I just won't go to the movies all that often. I do woodworking, I play golf, I have several other hobbies. When it dies I'll just go to the matinees. They are cheaper than the Cinemark subscription.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

I checked this morning and all the movies in the app have peak pricing for me. The peak pricing used to be $4. Today is $6 and $8. And of course, Mission Impossible is grayed out and can't be chosen. I feel that all the white knights defending the service online either are company employees or have stocks in it.

JimRochester07-29-18 08:37 AM

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

With the exception of a few of the first showings of the day, every show at Cinemark is shown as peak pricing with a $5.60 surcharge. No showings for MI are supported. The funny this is a few of the first showings are showing a $5.60 surcharge when the first show of the day is always $6 anyway.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Okay, the surge/peak pricing is horshesh*t.

It's about 7:53am PT. No f*cking theater is open. Mama Mia and Ant Man & the Wasp (out for weeks now) changed for those 2 showings I mentioned hours ago from surge pricing (grey lightning bolt) to full Red Lightning bolt peak pricing. And again....the f*cking theater isn't even open yet!!!

Again, I enjoyed this service very much, but it looks like Mitch and Ted want to run it into the ground. I have to believe they're getting thousands of cancellations this weekend.

Wolf35907-29-18 10:03 AM

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

It is complete horsesh*t and no one can possibly defend this company any longer. I've seen screenshots where the surge pricing is actually MORE than the cost of paying for the ticket out of pocket.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

I don't think check in works at all for non eticketed movie theaters, even if you wanted to pay the eight dollar surcharge. Has anyone actually checked in today? Yesterday they removed all the listings (except for mi, which they just blocked). They must have run through that extra five million yesterday afternoon. Stock is going to get destroyed tomorrow.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

I looked at a few theaters. Not seeing crazy peak pricing but there seems like more than usual.

I just tried getting a ticket for The Catcher Was a Spy - hey, it's Paul Rudd and there's no bullsh*t peak fee - and nope, denied. Guess it's officially dead. At least for non-e-ticketing.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Just goes to show that this surge/peak pricing algorithm is a complete joke. When you have prices fluctuate in the f*cking middle of the night when the theater isn't even open, you know this feature was bullsh*t from the start. Plus, how do you go from a "small" surcharge of maybe 2-3 bucks to now as high as $8, which for some theaters is 80% or even more than matinee cost.

These shady business practices that they've instigated in the last month or so make me want to see them go belly up.

dfmaverick207-29-18 11:49 AM

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

I checked, and my sub renews tomorrow.

I'll be canceling today.

I've enjoyed MoviePass for the last 4 years or so with many headaches, but in the long run I've seen near a thousand movies in the theaters for not much, but this train has derailed.

It's going to hurt a little on my viewing habits. I have a couple AMC theaters within 15 minutes, but I have a theater less than a quarter mile from my house that will not have a subscription service (Mann theater). I'll probably get AMC A-List and start frequenting the $5 Tuesdays at the Mann theater.

I do wish my sub didn't renew til later in the week to see if they survive and if peak pricing on m-w isn't that heavy. I had thought about gambling another $10 to ride it out til the end, but who am I kidding. When the news about them borrowing money the other day to pay vendors, I fear it's on its way to insolvency.

DJariya07-29-18 12:02 PM

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

and I just checked every theater within a 5-10 mile radius of my home. All showings of Mission: Impossible Fallout are blocked.

I paid to see an IMAX showing on Friday out of pocket with a coupon when I heard it was blocked since Thursday night.

Pretty unbelievable how they don't want to pay for probably the biggest movie of the summer. They probably blocked it because it would have bled them dry of the $5M they borrowed.

As someone said already, their stock is going to collapse big time when Wall Street opens Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if they're out of business within 2 weeks if not less.

Wow. That's impressive. I've seen 87 films since September. I was hoping to get to 100 in a year, now I'll be happy to see 1-2 more next week if they last that long. My subscription runs til the 11th, I believe, so I can sit back and see how things eventually unfold.

My wife and I were planning on going to see "Sorry To Bother You," and matinee price per ticket at the AMC Classic Theater is $3.99. MoviePass wants a $6 per ticket "Peak Pricing" surcharge this showing. So, it would cost us an additional $4 for us to use MoviePass. Dafuq are they thinking?!?

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Where is that forum member who ripped me for buying a ticket to Super Troopers 2 and then not going into the movie? If that was a violation of the program's terms of service, what is this?

I assume that Costco will give us some sort of a refund for the annual subscription we bought since unlike MP they care about not ripping off their members

stingermck07-29-18 01:27 PM

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

App is fubar again. It only shows 2 movies for my theater, dark web and purge, both with peak prices.

Was hoping to see wrath of Kahn tonight since they show classics on Sunday night.

Looks like Batman 89 last week was my last use.

re: MoviePass... would it work for you? [UPDATE: THE DEAD SHALL RISE]

Went out to see a double feature this morning with my wife and we intended to use our MP and Sinemia cards.
MoviePass worked fine! Sinemia didn’t work at all. We went to the theater expecting it to be the other way around.

(Insert internet outage)

Happy?

App is loading like normal now. Every movie peak but Kahn at 6:30. I may try my luck later.

Same for me. It states under every showing of MI: Fallout that ""This premium screening is not supported." It is saying this not only for the IMAX and 3D showings but just the regular 2D showings.

Glad I didn't plan on seeing it this weekend.

That AMC plan is looking better and better all the time. I am gonna ride out the MP plan to see what happens but as soon as it caves, off to the AMC plan I go. I got mine through the Costco sale last year as well so I wonder what is going to happen if they do go out of business. I can't imagine they will be giving refunds back.

Whatever happens, I easily got my money's worth since then. It was a fun ride while it lasted. I just hope them going under doesn't affect the AMC plan. I have enjoyed going back to the theater more often. I had slacked off before MP came about to just (at most) 6 movies in the theater a year.
